Red Sea Event Stage

Art Piece and Event Stage

Theoretical Concept Study

2024

Red Sea, Saudi Arabia

THE EYE

العین / "al-'ayn"

This concept project was conceived as an idea for the opening of the Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Resort developed by the Red Sea Global in Saudi Arabia. The project takes advantage of the already incredible resort site with the circular walk-way being one of the key drivers for the design of the art piece. Extruding the shape inwards creating a natural centre piece for the design with a central focus intensifying with each concentric layer until the user finds themselves within the space feeling as if they have stepped into another world.

The art concept presented here is envisaged for multiple lives and is imagined in multiple locations but could also be placed anywhere on earth.

THE PROCESSION

LIGHT & DARK

MYSTERY

After guests are greeted at the main reception, they're then ushered down to the red carpet that flows over the sand and down to the water's edge, the intrigue comes as you're walking down the red carpet there are hidden mist machines that fill the air with dense clouds of mist reducing the amount of visibility and adding to the mystery.

WALKING ON WATER

EPHEMERAL

As you walk out of the mist you suddenly realize that you are walking on water.

Instead of a golden surface like the iconic installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the path beneath your feet is a clear, translucent sheet. Through it, you can see straight to the water's depths, where your shadow walks alongside you, offset and distant, creating a mesmerizing, surreal reflection of your journey.

SKY & REFLECTION

SPACE & EMOTION

Once inside the stage area, the first thing that strikes you is the high-polished surface of the bowl-like structure. Its gleaming reflections create an otherworldly atmosphere, leaving you awestruck.

Everywhere you turn, a seamless 360-degree panorama unfolds—sky, reflections of the sky, and the shimmering water. It’s a surreal, almost dreamlike experience that feels utterly out of this world.

CONNECTIONS & EXPERIENCES

A COLLECTIVE MEMORY

Drawing inspiration from the traditional customs of the Arab world and the concept of creating shared experiences in remote locations, the seating arrangement was deliberately designed as a circle. This configuration ensures that each of the 300 participants can connect with every other guest, as the circular layout allows everyone to see each other's faces and fully engage in the collective experience.

The seating circle spans a circumference of 305 meters, providing each guest with a dedicated meter of space and additional length for openings. This thoughtful design strikes a balance between fostering interaction and maintaining a sense of personal privacy.

NEXT LIVES

Conceived as a theoretical project, this piece invites the question: "What happens next? Where can it go?" To that, our answer is simple: "Anywhere."

The concept revolves around a large circular bowl with an open center, emphasizing that the ground plane beneath is as integral to the artwork as the bowl itself. This design highlights the idea that any surface on Earth can become extraordinary when viewed from above, offering a unique perspective.

To explore this notion, we’ve showcased the art piece in various locations across the desert, drawing attention to the remarkable diversity and beauty of desert landscapes. But can you imagine it elsewhere? We can—anywhere on this planet.
